I’ve dreamed of learing to bartend ever since I was 16. I FINALLY had the time to go 2 summers ago. I searched around, and asked around, and visted different bartending schools here in NYC, and decided to go with Authentic Bartending School. They are the best priced, they looked to be very professional, and they are the only ones that didn’t PUSH me to sign up, and they offer life time support. You can take the classes as much as you need, you can take refresher courses at any time, you can come and practice, practice, practice as much as you’d like. And there’s always a counselor willing and ready to help you with any questions you may have. I LOVED every class, and every day that I had at Authentic. My favorite instructor was Adrienne, so was AWESOME. The instructors are bartenders themselves, and I feel that adds such flavor to the course. They gave us real life examples in class, I loved that. Today, I am enjoying bartending, and miss going to class at Authentic. It was so much more than I could have ever expected or dreamed of a bartending class. I was very nervous but very excited about learing to bartend, and Authentic made it that much more of a wonderful memory for me.

BARTENDING SCHOOL IS A SCAM!!!!! Do not make the mistake I made. In four years of bartending I never met a bartender worth there spit that swore by bartending school. Managers now it is a joke and look at it as a negative on a resume. Assuming you are not someone from this school using this board as free add space, you are the minority in the fact that you found a job threw a bartending school. Early on when I was just out of bartending school I had actually had managers at interviews tell me that bartending school was worthless and they apologized over the fact that I wasted my time and money. Looking back on it, bartending school was the dumbest thing I had ever done in my career as a bartending.

Wow, what an opinion! Its true that you don’t need bartending school if there is a bar thats willing to train you. But for other people who are just looking to break into the business, its a great idea. Half the bartenders I know who didn’t go to bartending school, may know how to bartend, but ask them what flavor triple sec is, or what makes vodka vodka or gin gin. These are things bartenders should know. If someone came into my bar with no experience, or someone who just graduated from bartending school, there would be no question of who I would hire. And just for the record, I didn’t go to bartending school, but thats only because I grew up learning in the family bar.

I would have no question either. I wouldn’t hire either of them. You have to start from the bottom i.e. barback, and work your way up, it’s that simple. BTW, most bartending schools do make claims they can’t back up, and good bartenders, know the answers to liquor questions, maybe you haven’t been around people that take their job seriously.
