Difference BTW Favorites and Non-Favorites…
Establishment: UNO CHICAGO GRILL
Location: Harvard Square
I worked at UNO CHICAGO GRILL on 22 JFK st about 3 years ago. I was a Hostess, 19, at the time. The new manager-forgot his name but he was Asian and maybe white. Well, he started showing his true colors.
I remember one time business was slow and he told a server to go home, even though she was there for only like an hour. She was mad. And another server, who was new said he will trade places with her. So, I told the manager if the new server could go and she could stay. He said No. He wanted the other server to go. BTW, I am corresponding with the manager through walkie talkie. He cut another girl, who was new and I heard her say over the walkie talkie she didn’t want to leave. So, he said, okay, you stay because you’re my favorite. I was just amazed that he can treat his co-workers differently. I, also was subjected to this. I wanted to add more hours to my schedule and it never fell through, even though they needed people to work more hours. So, Irina who was a hostess, was his favorites and cool with me. She said the manager didn’t want to give me more hours because he doesn’t think I’m assertive enough. She even told me how he would tell her she is the best hostess and stuff. What bothered me is that no one did a bad job in the restaurant. Only person who was lazy was Ashley, who was the lead hostess at the time. That week, I even upped my game to show that I was very assertive. I talked to the manager one more time and he said he will add more hours. I checked on my schedule one night and saw it was still the same. That night I quit. It wasn’t just me but other co-workers complained about how he treated us all differently, which was not justified. I even remember one time he got upset at one of his favorites and she replied, " Your not supposed to be mad at me, I’m one of your favorites." It’s just repulsive how he could treat people differently for no good reason.

I worked at UNOs for 6 years at a location close to you. Before I moved and quit, an Asian manager came to work with us (I wouldn’t be surprised if he was the same one!)He played favorites, was very open about it, and generally destroyed team moral!
