Hey Waiter, Stand Your Ass Up Already

Establishment: Any Theme Restaurant

Location: USA

I know I’m a banquet manager and we do things differently than in a restaurant, but who teaches you a la carte servers this shit?

I went out to lunch this afternoon with my wife to one of those theme restaurants (it doesn’t matter where ‘cause the same crap has happened to me in many of those chain places).  It goes like this…

But why don’t the managers of these chain restaurants teach their staff basic service skills or the proper way to greet a guest that is willing to spend their hard-earned money in their establishment?  Plus, give those waiters something more to wear than a shit-stained black t-shirt already.  That looks like crap!  Treat me like the adult I am and put a tie on!

Is it that the managers are just as weak as the servers and they don’t know the basics themselves?  Is it that they are too overworked to even be able to oversee their staff and make sure they are doing the right thing?  Is it that they just don’t care?  WTF…

I sure wish my readers that work in restaurants could help me understand this stuff ‘cause I sure can’t.

oh you must be a pleasure to work for!!

Holy hell. You need to calm down. If you’re not in a five star restaurant, why the hell would you expect the service to be like it? My guess is you paid $12 for a burger but you want the servers to treat like you like you’re dropping $500 on one bottle of wine. That won’t happen, get over it.

A lot of restaurants don’t make their staff assign seat numbers. And some restaurants have whatever waiter is present in the kitchen take out the food whenever its ready to not cause backup and get the food to the table ASAP. And if he’s kneeling down while talking to you, chances are that’s a rule they have to follow to keep in line with an “image”. These places are usually casual bars or yes, chain restaurants.

Should the hostess have asked how you were? Sure. And should the waiter have checked on you sooner? Yupp. But are you making a big deal out of relatively nothing? Absolutely. If you had checked your attitude at the door I’m sure you would have a much more enjoyable experience. I would hate to be your wife.

I agree !! It does not matter if you are in a 5 star or chain restaurant, Good service starts with common sense and respect. That is the problem with some restaurant Managers and Owners who think they know what Hospitality is and never in thier life have waited on a table. Good service means a good tip $$, Good service means returning Guest !! Returning guest means increse in revenue !!You do the math . The Art of Proper Service is a rear thing.

chain restaurants are not known for their good service or their good food…you get what you pay for..what did you spend? 40 bucks max? next time go to mac donalds

Squatting at the tableside has actually been shown to increase tip percentages in most cases. I don’t because it hurts my knees. So I guess everybody but you likes it.

You should Kill yourself

CASUAL DINING, DUDE!!!!!! Is it fucking Charlie Trotter’s?

I have to agree with the poster. Casual or not, service is important or don’t complain when I leave you 5% tip. I worked in the restaurant industry for years, mostly for chain restaurants, before getting a professional job and I agree, the quality of service has decreased greatly. Personally, I don’t think it’s 100% the managers fault, I think it’s the work ethic (or lack thereof) of kids nowadays. They rather bs with the bartender then care whether your food order is up or whether your meals were done correctly. They do the smallest amount of work as possible and then god forbid they actually are forced to do their jobs because they’ll come here and b1tch about it.
