My story at Croma

Establishment: Croma

Location: Newbury Street

I worked for Croma when they first opened. Helped open the place. Intentions were good and GM wanted best in the industry and morale was great. half of the staff dropped off immediately (the younger ones, of course). Problem was, everything was cooked in a "special" Sweedish oven that costs THOUSANDS of dollars and was the only one of it’s kind in the US One of the partners was a multimillionaire who had ownd a famous pizza chain in Great Britian. He sold those and opened Croma. Story is that this guy was playing golf and one of the Boston owners played through and nearly hit the guy. They became great friends, stayed in touch and the opened Croma in the old Davio’s space. Nice build out. BUT, although they had over 40 glasses of wine on the menu, the restaurtant served PIZZA!!! Not great for check averages…. We were forced to wear white shirts and specially make Croma ties in the summer. Most of the good waitstaff left after a few months while the kinks were being worked out. This is an upscale neighborhood pizza palor on Newbury Street. There was one manager who completely sucked and many of the servers who started with me were completely useless. Then I heard an "accidental" fire broke out…….Some of us had guessed otherwise. Since I have not been back since my departure, one only knows who is still invested in this business. To be fair, I though Paul was a nice guy who had plenty of restaurant experience and finally realized his goals to actually own one. Also fair to say I had met and worked with a few highly educated and dynamic elite few……Otherwise, I have no real dirt on this restaurant. And yes, we ALL know how much Jonny Depp loves the Sticky Toffee Pudding.

croma and it’s owners suck. they are liars and don’t pay their bills. i wish a plauge upon them. good luck in plymouth, just what they need another restaurant.

Croma is leaving their newbury street location due to the lease being up, and rent being too high. They are moving to south boston to the former location of the faragut house.

To any & all who were ever considering working here…DON’T DO IT!!!

I know, I know, a lot of you are going to say “Here’s just another disgrunteled former employee.” You are entitiled to your opinion, for those who are interested in knowing however; please read along. This hopefully will soon be made a mute point as the restaurant is hanging by a thread & will; by the grace of god, soon close. These clowns have bounced every payroll since June. The owners know that they have a rat problem & have chose to do nothing (watch your ankles when you venture down to use the restroom) I’m amazed that the city or the District Attourney’s office hasn’t done anything. Their own bank won’t cash their checks!?! These guys have abused people for their entire five year run, openly stole money from nieve investors, written their own good reviews in an attempt to quell all the nagative ones (they use an account on city search & con what friends they have left to do the same), & worst of all have broken every osha rule ever put down on paper. the city should really declare this place a disaster area.

So please; head this warning. Don’t work there….Ever! Collect welfare if you have to, you won’t feel as dirty in the morning. You know the feeling, that “I just slept with the dirtiest person on the planet & I need a shower!” kind of feeling.

Thank you for your time.

I ate (sort of) at Croma in Plymouth last week on a Monday night and it was a complete disaster!! One server no bartender and I think there was a manager but when I tried to talk to him he just mumbled and walked away. Poor service from begining to end. The only reason the food was bad is because the waitress never put our order in! They even gave me two different bills!!! The waitress told me the restaurant was doing poorly and it was quite obvious.
