Where do I begin??? I like to work for privately owned places as corporate can really suck. But now I am beginning to realize that maybe corporate is not so bad. At least the rules are the rules,paycheck/tips are generally done on time and in an orderly fashion.
I have worked for some seasonal places such as The Red Lion Inn,Skyline & The Winery 53 located in Pembroke,Ma.
The Red Lion Inn…SHIT SHOW!! Owner is a complete tool and hires whomever regardless of the advice of his current management team. He has his girlfriends,x-girlfriends and whatever\’s employed in the place with no actual job title. The bar is a mess. They pulled the guns for soda and use bottles instead. They are always out of liquor and glasses for drinks. There is a new chef every five minutes and best yet..they ALWAYS…I mean ALWAYS..f\’up your check. The upside is they do functions and I have made some sick cash there. HOWEVER, someone new is always doing the schedule and some who do the schedule are employees with children working in the place so they will schedule their kids (17) rather then the bit older more experienced staff who have bills to pay as well. They have one bitter,crusty bit** who works there that has been there for six years. What a miserable c***! She tries to scare everyone off so she does not have her shifts taken when in reality I think they wish someone they hired would step up and make her leave. But no one has the balls to fire they just pull you off the schedule and say oh we have no room for you so you will leave. So many things so little time…
Skyline Marina Bay
In a nutshell, unorganized,unprofessional circus full of clowns.For a place that does a majority of it\’s biz during the summer they are so dis organized.The Micros system is older then hell and cluttered with buttons and confusing crap not allowing you to move quickly. The owner is in seven days a week and makes things worse. A millionaire who has great biz sense but no clue how to run a place like Skyline. Let\’s put it this way..that place can do 30k in a night in complete confusion and chaos! You would think they would have it together as it is no surprise the marina is slammed all summer long. Bad mangemenet,sad owner.DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!! Go to another place along the marina. You will always be made to feel like they have twenty other applicants behind you when you have any problems.
The Winery 53
Located along Rt 53 in Pembroke this place feels like it is no mans land. Then again it manages to stay busy on the weekends. However, the owners are just like any other private owners..giant pains in the ass as they get all flustered that the staff is running circles around them and schooling them on how to run the place.The chef Ken..not to bad. Nice guy,funny maybe a bit full of himself. Anyways, the place is beautiful inside and the bar is huge. But again here is a deal where the owners are way to involved. Yes, it\’s their place and yadda yadda yadda. Let the staff your hired do their job. Unless they are costing you money,upseting customers and wiping their ass and not washing hands and coming to work looking like a bum…back off! I think in places like these people get all pompous because they bought a resturaunt and feel now they are god and the employees they hire are just idiots. Very frustrating place to work for as the customer base is inconsistent,owners will hire and fire whomever when they are rubbed the wrong way,unorganized and a very snobby customer base.
Overall every place has there thing. You just have to put your head down and work and do what you were hired for. But it is places like these that will forever ruin the service industry for those who enjoy it as a main income or supplemental. The service industry has one of the highest turn over rates? Why? Would you not prefer a well trained experienced staff that remains with you year after year??
I am baffled by these places and strongly suggest you go some where else!!

the guy above me makes no sense. these are three places this guy has worked over a period of time and feels them not to be reliable places to work. His rant’s are similar to most on here..so what’s the problem??
I have heard about these places before and think this blog rings true.

Some people try to hold against restaurant employees that they change jobs too often which is only a bad sign for this employee , well what can we do if there is too many douch bags out there running these places i mean this one doesnt pay on time cuz of whatever and that one takes a cut of the tips cuz bla bla , should we just bend over and take it so we can stay in the same shithole for 15 years to make the resume look good?
Don’t know about Skyline but Jerry at Red Lion is the worst, I don’t think anyone says anything good about him. Ken at the winery could be one of the stupidest, most incompetent people I have ever run across. I always heard the owners of the Winery were okay, they used to own a place in Milton.
Gerd ( Jerry ) @ The Red Lion Inn 1704, is definitly the worst employer ever… ANd is Amazon looking GF Nadia is a Beast.. The place is run into the ground and He honestly doesnt care about anything but getting drunk and ripping people off and ruining lives.
so this guy is complaining about 3 restaurants all of them he worked at so all three restaurants are messed up i think it is the other way around you are the cu** show up to work and you wont get fired IE “my sister had carbon monoxide poisining i cant come in” My brother stubed his toe i cant come in” ” my dog is sick i cant come in ” get a life get a job and show up dead beat
