The Oceanaire Orlando

Establishment: The Oceanaire Seafood Room

Location: Orlando

My most recent job was at the Oceanaire Seafood Room "where we never conduct drug tests or criminal background checks even on management!" My 2 bosses Dore Zamoff and Roger Warren were always trying to score weed and pills from us.  Their 2 favorite employees Marion Lenz and Philip Noorigan are covered with tatoos, sores, and collectively weigh 100 lbs. Marion told me if I bought his meth (in employee locker) I could get rid of that last 20 lbs. Nobody has a drivers license in that place.  Management backs out cash tickets and pockets it so it doesn’t get reported to corporate. Other places manage to not employ petty criminals to safeguard their employees and customers from getting hepatitis.  They always let Marion manage the money on large parties and I’m sure he plays the old left pocket right pocket on us. Plus they are training him to manage and they all disappear in the back office to let him count the bar drawer down! When they want to squeeze people out you come in and you have no station and they laugh and say they forgot to call you off.

did oceanaire in boston close? I heard it was a recent

casualty?? RIP___great bay…

BULLSHIT they do not piss test!

I worked for Oceanaire for many years.

Stop lying just because you suck

I was employed at this location for a little under a year and voluntarily quite because the restaurant is so mis-managed, ,particularly when it comes to fair table rotation, and fair scheduling. The managing partner, Dori Zamoff, has this bad habit of saying one thing and doing another. This by far is the most dysfunctional management team. I have ever had the displeasure of working for.

The comments made by the person in the original post, are
absolutely correct. I too witnessed the exchange of money for drugs among employees, and persons in charge. This is exactly what happens when a company doesn’t drug test.

Dori Zamoff is the worst GM I have ever worked with I have been in this business since the early 90’s and come close to dealing with a worse person. I googled his name and found this link at the top. He is currently ruining Johnnies Hideaway in Orlando. He won’t let front of the house employees eat any food when we work 7 plus hours and the kitchen staff gets a meal. He blames the servers for all of his own cheap mistakes. He does everything he can to save a penny at a restaurant that makes over 800,000$ a month. We have no silverware no glassses and a bare bones staff. Then we get write ups and blamed when guests asked why we run around like chickens with no heads. I never seen a more under staffed kitchen and 2 busboys for 500 covers a night. Then he yells at us like a manic depressive off their meds.

I have worked at Johnnie’s for more than 2 years, I have never made more income than I currently make now that Dori Zamoff is our GM. In ADDITION WE HAVE MORE SUPPLIES THAN EVER BEFORE. Our clientelle is a Waiter/servers DREAM as we have the opportunity to make $100+ from 1 table. Bad servers with poor organizational skills have problems at Johnnie’s. If you conduct yourself as a professional and take your job seriously than this is a great place to work. If you are looking for a job that does not hold you accountable for your careless mistakes than don’t work at Johnnie’s; on the other hand, if you are looking to work 6 hours a day and make great money $25 - $30 dollars an hour than work here. If you work here as a waiter than you will have a very comfortable , lucrative profession without all of the stresses of a ” a real job” in management where you have to work 10+ hours a day. To all people with great wine knowledge and tremendous work ethic please do not apply as I hope to continue getting great parties and doing well without the threat of a competent professional server taking my place.

Got to love Johnnies with it’s culture under Dore. Typical night, never see your “server assistant” also another employee has quit with out notice. Outside section on deck with a kitchen but they keep it closed won’t pay to have any cooks in the outside kitchen. So if a guest needs anything you have to go inside for every request. Your section will get skipped until they are busy then you get 3 tables in minutes. You have to water and clean your tables with out any help from “server assistants”. Any problem that you ask another employee about, no bread, no spoons, no ice, no coffee, no sauces they say “Welcome to Johnnies” while laughing. There are only 3 working computers to ring an order when there are up to 500 guests another delay. Then you try and find your section manager, if you get lucky and find them they shout at you “What!!?” and then “I am busy!”. The kitchen drops off your food but something will be missing or wrong, even though another server has dropped it off they just want to get away as fast as possible of course that’s the few who will run food other servers never run anyone else’s food, I guess they are friends with management.

When i originally got the job at Johnnies i was extremely excited as it is made out to be this high class, fine dine restaurant. Once i had a few weeks under my belt there, i noticed all the wrong in the company. The management at Johnnies Hideaway in Orlando was a joke, they all hated each other and would talk behind each-others backs. Let me go through the list of things wrong with this “company.” Turns out, we were not so fancy as the show we put on. Crappy dishwashers, dirty silverware, plates, cup ware etc. At a meeting, he told us in one month alone we pulled over 800,000 $ in sales, yet he never bought new supplies for us. Our carts us Servers and Server Assistants used were haggard and broken. He never replaced any of them. When it came time to ask for another set of uniforms so i didn’t have to do the same uniform every night after work and waist water/time he said no. I offered to pay for them and never got them. Lets be serious, as a server assistant/dish pit scraper, who the hell wears a white button up shirt? Could not keep it clean and he was not willing to sell me another one, yet he would bitch and moan about how it wasn’t up to par b/c it had yellow mustard stains on it..

Dore was a bi-polar man, you would just go to strike up a general conversation with the man to be friendly and he would turn around to reply with throwing his hands up, rolling his eyes and saying “what is it” or “what do you want”, which to me is NOT acceptable. You would put a request 4+ weeks in advance for a day or two off and you would NOT get them off. They were truly incompetent.

Dore talked down to the Server Assistants, like we were below him. He would feed the WHOLE kitcken staff/management/cash counter(server) EVERY shift but when a Server Assistant wanted to grab a left over piece of bread that was going to be thrown out he would rage on them. He said if he caught anyone grabbing a end piece of bread or something like a cracker they would be fired on the spot, yet that asshole fed the kitchen staff full out meals daily.

He would always harass me about the slightest bit of facial hair. I would shave before my shift at night, go in to work, the next day return to work again and he would harass me about the slightest bit of hair on my neck. I was sent home even after i told him i have been to the dermatologist about my bad skin and that i can’t shave it every day due to irritation and ingrown hairs.

Accidents happen, especially in the food industry, if i would accidentally slip and drop a bread plate or the stem of our cheap wine glass would snap i would get yelled at as if i dropped a whole order of food or something expensive..

No matter what you could never make this man happy. He said we were not able to bring in the dirty carts and leave them for the dish pit scraper to clean off(my thought was what the fuck was his purpose?) So i would try and rush to get it done to get back on the floor to reset my tables as Hostesses and managers were breathing down our necks to get stuff done faster. Constantly i would have servers come in the dish pit and unload all their dirty trash onto my cart which would hold me back from getting back out there. When we all confronted Dore Zamoff our GM he said “i am paying you tip share, don’t complain its part of the job.” My reply was “then don’t freak out and yell to be faster and get to the floor to finish tables.”

There was NEVER any communication between management, it was a complete joke. Right before i quit, he fired several hostess’s, a raw bar cook, a few SA’s, and another manager for Sexual Harassment.. I am so damn glad i quit that lame excuse of a job. My buddy that also quit there had gotten a second job and needed time off for training and asked Dore Zamoff to work with him so he could stay at Johnnies and work two jobs to help pay for school and Dore’s reply was “I am trying to run a business” and he did not help the kid. So he quit.

We had from 2-4pm EVERYDAY to come in, grab a paycheck or tipshare from the night before but EVERY time i would go up there to grab it he would yell at my, cause a scene and say how he was busy and that we needed to wait till our shift to pick up the last nights money.. I laughed because he was the one that set the designated hours for coming in to grab money. He must just be a very unhappy man, because he would always look at the little things to nit pick you about and make your positive attitude go downhill.

I encourage EVERYONE to stay away from this place.

Dore is a bully verbally emotionally and physically. I have seen him throw things at busboys and grab people by their arms. He is a lawsuit waiting to happen or someone will beat his ass at work. He has made Johnnies a place were servers can no longer make money and employees are treated like slave labor.
