Waiter fired for being kosher and a vegetarian

Establishment: Cucci Cucci

Location: Cambridge

I got fired from Cuchi cuchi in Cambridg, MA for (as the owners stated) my sickly, unhealthy appearance due to me being to thin.
Also- being a kosher jew, they said that i was unable to taste the food, and would not be able to represent the food to my customers.
whats up with that?

You were fired for dressing poorly while training; for complaining about staying to close; for not telling us you were a vegetarian and therefore could not taste our food or recommend it properly to customers and for being an obvious jerk

Kosher and vegetarian eating is stupid in 2008.

You were probably fired because you were a whiny loser who didn’t tell the restaurant you were such a pu$#% when they hired you.

Cuci Cuci is a great restaurant - and probably better now that a little bitch like you doesn’t work there. Just a guess.

Firstly…if you work or manage at cuchi cuchi with that mouth, the person that was let go, fired, whatever, is lucky. What a trash mouth you have. You are a terrible representation of the restaurant. I would never go there now knowing how people are treated. Secondly, for you to pass judgment over the eating and/or religious beliefs of someone else is inconceivable “in 2008″. Perhaps that person should have told you they are a vegetarian but that is certainly no reason to treat people badly. I have worked at steak houses w/servers that didn’t eat meat but they weren’t fired. They just didn’t eat meat. You need a tolerance adjustment.

How about that typical scenario when women are together on the mgmt team and act like petty cats, feel threatened when ever questioned on anything, never admit mistakes, as doing so would potentially undermine their authority (in their minds). No, I am not a sexist pig, just a realist. We all know the scenario I’m referring to….oh wait, someone has still got to propose a rebuttal because MEN do the same, or what about men and their mgmt decision making….go ahead…of course they’re similar…Men can be as#%*es, but women can be just downright evil…..incidentally, I am female…and worked at cucci cucci for a significant period and know exactly what I am talking about

I’m not disagreeing with you at all, but, yes, men can be just as bad. I have only had a very few down to earth, decent, fair managers in the restaurant business. Most of them, men and women, I would consider to be a little psycho, have borderline personality disorders, maybe even OCD. I’m not sure which came first…the psycho personality or the job itself. Are these people hired for their crazed, mean personalities?? or, does the job bring it out in them??? Are they just trying desperately to climb that restaurant ladder to GM and will step over anyone to get there??? Many of the managers I’ve had are young, inexperienced, and willing to work for crap money. Not all of them…just a fair amount. I know their job is hard, long hours, much responsibility and I try to think about that before I tell them to go screw and walk out because they just talked to me in a completely disparaging way and treated me like I didn’t have a brain in my head.

If as a manager you can’t speak to your staff with respect even during the most stressful situations….You aint gonna make it. If by disrespectful you mean disagreeing with you thats different. I have had people say i spoke to them disrespectfully when I was actually standing my ground and enforcing policies. After the first 3 times of respectfully saying no and explaining the reason the tone may change but as far as respecting that person…it’s still there.
#1 the customer
#2 the staff
#3 my boss
That is my order.

Yesterday I drove my 16yeald old daughter and her boyfriend down from the ‘burbs, to the Garment District to shop…. I wanted to treat them to a ‘fun and memorable’ dinner, so at about 6:30pm we stopped in at Cuchi Cuchi in Cambridge. Kids were dressed in a typical hipster/emo uniform with a hint of excessive eye makeup, but not freakish or goth looking. In Cambrige, anything seems to go, right?! I was wearing a credible pants suit having picked them up after work…. No, we did not have a reservation, but it was early. Because I am in the industry, my kids have developed a mature palate. They will eat salads and enjoy trying new things… I was prepared to order a decent glass of wine, sodas for the kids, a salad for each of us; daughter’s boyfriend would have been treated to a filet, daughter likes seafood. I might have ordered the special. Kids would share a dessert or two while I enjoyed a cappacino or coffe drink. That is a better tab than 2 women drinking pinot grigio and nibbling on chicken caesar salads with 2 baskets of bread, right?! This was the scenario:
We walk in and older Latina hostess scowls at us as she looks over the kids….She shoots her assistant a look and they speak in hushed tones….There is no “Welcome” or “How are you this evening?”
I request a table for 3 and the hostess begrudgingly hands her assistant menus and we are led to the back of the restaurant. It is dark and there is a table of 8 LOUD women. Passing through the main dining area, I noticed there were many vacant tables. I request, very politely, that I prefered to sit in the main dining area. With a scowl, we are led back to the hostess podium, and I stop assistant and ask for a window seat. “It’s reserved” she tells us. Assistant is again speaking in hushed tones and I am feeling unwelcome at this point. Kids are oblivious. I ask why we can’t be seated as there seems to be vacant. She tells us they have alot of reservations. I spy her list on the podium, does not seem like they are overbooked. Hostess does not aplogize or try to accomodate us. She stands there scowling. I snapped and told her that I work in the industry and her demeanor is rude and unacceptable. “Let’s go kids, and I will NEVER return”..as we leave. What a rude cow. I should have known better, I’ve heard things and seen previous posts on this site. I was hoping for a fun dining experience, instead we were given an ungracious attitude, I hope this kids learned something here.

We ended up next door at Berticci’s where we went though all of the same courses listed above. Our older Brazillan waitress was gracious and attentive. She made my kids feel good with compliments about their choices. Another waitress passed by and refilled thier sodas unsolicited….The manager stopped by and asked if everything was okay. We only spend about $70, but I left a great tip because the service and attitude was above average!
Bertucci’s outclassed Cuchi Cuchi BIG TIME! How funny! And kids were happy, they are too young to be ‘food snobs’…..

Cuchi Cuchi heed this post as a warning! Yo are lucky that I am not posting this on Boston City Search were many possible diners nationwide would see this! Get your act together and get rid of that cow you call a hostess. She does NOT possess the charm you people claim makes your restaurant so special.

To the Original Poster,

I am a reporter for a Jewish publication, and I am interested in hearing what you have to say about your dismissal from Cuchi Cuchi. Please give me a call at 617-367-9100 ext. 135.

Thank you

TO LEMON DROP,

THAT MANAGER AT CUCHI CUCHI IS NO LONGER WORKING THERE AND FYI SHE WASN’T LATINA, SHE WAS MOROCCAN, I BELIEVE, AT LEAST ON MY MAP, THAT IS IN AFRICA. IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE RACIST GET YOUR SH*T TOGETHER. ALSO, BRAZILIAN IS LATINA!!! YOU SHOULD EAT AT BERTUCCI’S, OR BETTER YET TRY MCDONALDS, YOU HAVE NO CLASS.

P

HEY P,

Speaking of NO CLASS, which by the way it is obvious you have none by suggesting McDonald’s…..I was in NO way racist. How would you know who I was referencing?? I did NOT say manager. And NO, Brazilians are not considered Latina in case you have not taken an anthropology or history class you dumb bitch.

My point was to describe an UNACCEPTABLE experience in the industry and from reading some of the posts here, I can see I am NOT the only one who feels this way about CC. And if that manager from Morocco is no longer employed there, I guess it has been made quite clear why! A Bertucci’s hostess next door was a million times more gracious than that woman was.

Yo P,
it is obvious you work at the restaurant in question, otherwise, why the stong retort: and in caps no less.
Your comments are not only biased, but add fuel to the argument, that lemon drop had a less than pleasureable experience at Cuci Cuci because of attitudes like yours!
Your comment just shows, that having “no class” is not a racist statement, just a fact that “no class” doesn’t care what part of the world you’re from.
It does however suggest, that you came from a country where you believe class is important.
It will continue to be the albatros around your neck!

To Chi/Lemon Drop,

I absolutely do not work at Cuchi Cuchi. I have eaten there a few times before and found everyone to be very friendly. The retort in all caps was because I was just to lazy to to type in proper uppercase and lowercase. I guess my point was basically, why did this women feel the need to refer to the Latina and the Brazilian? I just feel it was not necessary to mention these things. Just make your complaint. I guarantee if Lemon Drop refered to the woman as a fat Jewish cow, someone else would have pointed that out and, my point was if you are going to refer to someone’s country, you could at least have the correct reference. I think most people would agree.

Why not just non-descript terms like, the host, the server, the manager? Is it really necessary to refer to someone as a cow?

I grew up in the Boston, Massachusetts, USA. I could really care less if class is or is not important. Lemon Drop is the person who brought class into this issue “Bertucci’s outclassed Cuchi Cuchi Big Time”.

OK, your turn :)

P

I am a former employee from cuchi cuchi. the place sucks. do not give barbara dollar or her partner any $$$. do not go to dali’s for that matter (they own that place too). they are very rude to their staff. very. I have seen them fire people many times for how they look (mostly because in their own menopause views; not sexy enough). they treat customers poorly unless they look “fuckable” - I have heard such terms spoken on more than one occasion. They are pretentious and only wish to have an image rather than hospitality. all image, no class. On the other hand - they would probably run a clothing store on Newbury well (as long as they didn’t have any employees - just not restaurants.
I have been in the industry at fine restaurants for 18 years. I was not fired from cuchi cuchi.
peace not assholes.
