Ad to avoid on CL

Establishment: Any

Location: RP

Any ads that start off "hot new trendy", "brand new concept" etc, especially when the ad. states opening soon, laughable.

Specially ads state in which neighborhood they are in and they are wrong, and they do usually for marketing purposes to get in certain types of people (ie New Trendy Place now opening in "Hot South Loop" apply at 24 and State) the example I show you here is that after printers it is china town (armour square), douglas, motors row, etc.

Ads that want a pic, facebook or twitter links, for people that need a facebook link or twitter, clearly wants you to do their marketing for free or have a "following", unless the ad states that it is an adult club or popular night club then you are required to send them a photo, sorry but that is the business, but otherwise flag them.

Any ad that states you must have a "following".

Any ad that states wanted "good-looking", "attractive" etc, unless again if it is an adult club or popular night club, otherwise flag them.

What ever happened to personality or good old fashioned experience.  Lately many of the ads i have seen, appear to only want the not so bright employees, Maybe its because the employers do want to be questioned about their establishments, don’t know anymore.  its Just BS.

Any ad that states the words "audition", "casting call" etc. these types of people are trying to be clever and failed miserably, they do not even know the definitions of these words, and they do not pertain to the service industry at all.  Please avoid any jobs that have use these words for waiting on tables, bartending, hosting, through my past experiences, these potential employers turned to be flakes, perverts, or completely insane. Flag them.

Anything that is gender specific (ie, voluptuous female bartender wanted in orland park),flag these people on CL and forward the ad to the labor board.

To all males: do not apply to any jobs in wrigley or most of lakeview, rush street (other than security or barback), or most bars and diners that are near DePaul and Loyola, unless you know someone, which still is a big "if", you will never get hired.

Any place that states that 5+ years experience, its a joke and obvious a flake.  Unless the place is Like Alinea or atleast the same reputation do not bother, flag them.

Do not even bother with the Gold Coast.

As for working interviews, try-outs etc, been burned many times, ended up working for free and did not get hired.

I will not get into working interviews, I’ll say this, if a potential employer wants to set one up and at the end of that night they will say yes or no, then do it, otherwise run.

Thats my rant.

Pretty much common sense stuff. But thanks for putting it out there for those that are not so enlightened.
Seems like being a guy is the greatest liability when looking for a serving job in the city. Be the location near DePaul, Loyola, or anywhere where a guy can make real money.
I’ve stodged a couple of places, but never hired. I’ve been doing this 10 years, I cant be that bad : ( I think that I’ve been blacklisted by Jackie Pluton.

no body told me interviewing attire must be from victoria’s secret

any advice for african-american employees? i’m a grad student at depaul & can’t seem to get a job in the area
