Anonymous Job Listings
Establishment: Any Restaurant
Location: Chicago
Does anyone else think that a Craigslist.com job posting that Does Not give the name of the establishment when posting an ad is not worth replying to?
Personally, I am not going to apply to any rest / lounge that I do not know about, and I should think that if an operator or manager advertises for employees, that they would want to identify themselves.
Ergo, any posting that is anonymous originates from owners / operators who are worried that if they were to list the name of their establishment, they would not receive any worthwhile applicants? Or perhaps they do not wish that their current staff be aware that they are interested in new or replacement staff?
Is this just me?

I can see why they don’t put the info in on C/L…if they do they get overrun by applicants during business hours.
The problem with C/L is so many people send in responses that they look at a few and thats it. I’ve never had a call back from an ad on C/L.
I hate the “cattle calls” or the “send resume AND PHOTO”.
Whats the dude do ? sit and jerk off on the pics and the photo that gets the jizz on it gets hired ? Hire on experience assholes. I cant wait to get out of this business.
I would stay away from any ad that posts no credible contact information. I could understand the point of not wanting to cause huge interruptions during busy hours (haha as if any restaurant is *as* busy anymore) but that’s why it should be clearly stated that applications are received via email only.. but that being said, the industry is over flowing now with good talent and no work.. and it’s going to probably get even tougher with college kids coming home to roost and needing jobs :/
I myself just got hired for work @ Wrigleyville Rooftops via a CL ad, but they clearly stated their contact info and application terms, so it was pretty good experience so far.
Welcome to the employment world - not just food and beverage. Many employers remain anonymous for many reasons as you note in your memo. Also in the food world employers avoid discrimination suits from minorities they prefer not to hire - color - sex - age - etc !
Im an average looking guy and it makes me so angry when they say send a picture with your resume. I just got a new digital camera this morning and im going to take a picture of my dick and attach it to my resume lol.
But it’s different in the restuarant business. I think it’s extremly important that they identify themselves. It’s also a waste or their time and yours. For example if you live in the North side you probably don’t want to take a job in the South side right? It would save so much time and aggervation on both ends.
Also I agree with the person who said it’s annoying when they tell you to send a photo? That right there is discrimination. What does that have to do with anything? If you have the experience and you can bring good service to the establishment who really cares? People are so superfical and it’s pathetic. Thats why you get bad service in these places because they hire the bimbo waitress who can’t even read. It’s sad.
Yes,I hate when they do that, that’s why I look them up by the address and see if its even worth it making the trip there, some septic tank places keep on posting trying to fool people when all they are is full of horse manure, people if they don’t post the name then don’t apply!!!! they can run their circus themselves!!!!

I agree 100%!! BUT let me tell you what really pisses me off. I decided to email my resume to over 20 ads last summer looking for work. I got 5 different restaurants to call me. However, when I talked to each manager I had no idea what restaurant they were from and didn’t know anything about them. All of sudden it’s my fault because I didn’t do the proper restaurant of each restaurant I applied to. How the hell am I supposed to research or know who is calling me when I don’t even know what restaurant I was applying to?
P.S. Stay away from 200 East Supper Club (TRUST ME)
