I have been a bartender/server for 10 years
I am SO SICK. I have loved my profession for the ten years that I have been doing it. i even tried managing once…AWFUL. Never again. I am not the usual "jaded" server. I just hate my ineffectual manager. She should not have her job, she plays faves like nobodies business, can’t make a schedule to save her life. I get sick to my stomach every time I have to go to work. I have never, EVER been in this situation.
ANY advice would be welcome. I know I need to look, find a new spot, but I am reaching, I really need more succinct advice. The market isn’t so open right now.
P.S. I DO NOT want her job. I just need a big UP from anyone of us…please tell me what you think. Sorry I cannot give more details. NOT corporate, which makes it harder to leave…

Like I said, I have been doing this forever and I have yet to come across this type of situation. Maybe I have been lucky, or maybe I am just damn good at my job.
I already stated my problem in my post, if you don’t know what it is, you either did not bother to read my post, or you just want to be an asshole. I guess it’s the latter.
Maybe you should learn some grammar and spelling before you try to talk shit. Making me feel worse makes you feel…better?

I am gonna have to agree with server4ever on this one , henery you are being and ahole for no reason , he is trying to vent its makes him sick everytime he has to go to work , the manager is clearly unfit or at least that how he feels , and no its not that way for every one , he has it bad and he needs to share the grieve so let him be . at any case what server4ever needs to know is this is all a temporary thing , hang in there , dont give anyone a chance to f#%ck with you , be on time ,settle for what you get , kiss your manager’s ass until you gain some allies perhaps the owners or whoever the higher ups are, become valuable and indesposable then may be you work on exposing your manager to what she is worth , highlight her shortcomings for all to see .

NOT because you had my back, but you really read my mind.
I have made my case, I have been perfect, and I (unwillingly) kiss ass, but only in the most subtle and sarcastic way. Fortunately for me, she was a friend before the manager “upgrade”.
I have decided to be the STAR employee…cuz all the other ones are new kids, but then I get to be the one she counts on to cover the shifts that I DO NOT WANT. I do it in a pinch….often. Yet, I cannot get the ONE shift that I want.
Makes me feel like a middle sister. MEH.
But…we just got over 50 resumes yesterday….so…who am I to complain.. I still have a job.

I dont know what your problem is . grow up kid , what you have described is pretty much everyone’s situation at work , The schedule is not accommodating, Managers play faves , wow shocker , u cant quit cuz u don know whats out there , blah blah blah , welcome to rel life or actually get a life.
