Take them all to the cleaners…..
I’ve been monitoring the postings on the site for a while now.
Each one of us can tell a story and I believe every story makes
us more and more jaded. Is that right? First of all, I was, I
am and I always will be defending the waitstaff. I went through
many things in the industry myself. there’s one specific area I
would like to address today - our postings on this site. I think
sometimes our postings give to much publicity to people that do
not deserve it - namely restaurant owners. Believe me, bad
publicity is an advertisement. Are they worthy of it - NO.
Please do not try to slander their names as well, ’cause there
are people out there who are siding with the restaurant owners.
Remember the rule of the industry:
1. There are no good restaurant owners!
2. If you happen to come by a good
restaurant owner (which happens here and there) it’s an
exception that just underlines the rule no.1!
Restaurant owners are the ones welcoming the customers that harass you and give yo
shitty tips. They are the ones always siding with customers. They
are the ones always stating - the customer is always right!
Guess what - a restaurant owner is always wrong! Dear friends out
there, please do not waist yourself on slandering the names of
these owners, since they do not deserve additional time from your
life. Do not be angry with the customers that don’t tip you
properly - turn to owners, they are welcoming this type of
behavior. Go for the root cause. There are many illegal things
going on in the restaurant industry in general. There’s sexual
harassment, there’s racial discrimination, there’s abuse,
absence of medical insurance, tips disappearing etc. What can
you do as waitstaff to stop it? I tell you what - gather the
evidence, all types of evidence possible including witnesses and
then strike to there where it hurts the most - pocket. Take them
to "cleaners" - sexual harassment, racial discrimination are the
things that require lawsuits. By publicly exposing violations
you’ll make them pay for all the pain they cause in you lives.

I’ve learned this the hard way! Investigate a restaurant before
you even fax your resume or go on an interview! Find out who the
principal owners are and do a web search on them. You can also
search on the web if the establishment has passed their health
inspections. The less the violations, the more the owners care
about the place and their employees. Sit at the bar and observe
the place. Is the owner a drunk, coked out skirt chasing asshole?
Are the bartenders happy and do they treat the waitstaff with
respect? Do the waiters look like they’ve been at this
establishment for over ten years, and will you, because of
seniority, only get stuck to work only shitty lunches? Do the
busboys look like they will watch your back and are worthy of a large tipout? Is that blond waitress bangin’ the boss for a good
section and schedule? Find out as much as you can and be very
careful in the decisions you make! Most importantly, check out
this website for the truth about bad employers in this crazy
town!
It is clearly the best revenge possible , suing the hell out of these douch bags , However, in most cases employers commit lots of unethical things that do not nessasary rise to the level of illegal , Grey areas where the law is unable to find them gulity , now what do we do ? that’s when the internet and sits like this come handy , you have to turn to the below the belt hiting ,anonymous postings ,and writing on bathroom walls , let everyone know and that can also my friend do the trick.
It might not be as ethical as we would like it to be but what choice do we have at this point.

I’ve worked at quite a few places since the early 90’s, in NYC
and Minneapolis, and I can definitely attest to the fact that in
general - no matter how nice the place is - the people that run
the places are sleazy in some aspect. Either they are bouncing
your checks (in the case of one VERY well thought of
establishment I worked at in Mpls.) or they are using and abusing
people because they know there’s another person right behind you
waiting for a job (as in NYC.) and If you’re NOT willing to take
the abuse, you are called a “bad server.” But aside from all of
the abuse that seems so rampant, especially here in the city,
what blows me away is that so many people seem to not be in
control of thier own tips - as in tip pooling, waiting to get your
charge tips until the end of the week etc. This is crazy. As a
server if you are NOT able to pick your tip up off your table and
put it in your own goddamn pocket, that is not a place worth
working for. You are GOING to get screwed. If you are not getting
your charged tips the SAME DAY, that is also a sign that you are
getting fucked. These practices should be made illegal.
