Cheaters and Liars!

Establishment: Downtown restaurant

Location: Los Angeles

I worked for a place in Downtown Los Angeles a while ago and they were the most poorly managed restaurant.  Not only that, some of the bartenders were surly and rude to the waitstaff.  If a server needed something or had a question, a particular bartender would snap at them and ask them, "are you stupid?" or "are you an idiot?"  Once, this bartender said to a server, "Uh, how long have you been waiting tables? Is this amateur night?"  Yes.  Then you would be expected to take it and keep your mouth shut because some of the staff had been there longer and complaining would mean you getting canned.

The floor manager at the time had their favorites and I came in one hour before another server.  I did all of my prep work and served tables like I usually did.  Things got slow that evening and the server who came in AFTER me asked me to continue her shift even though it was time for me to leave.  Since there was no one else and it started to get busy again, I had no choice.  It turns out she was meeting the floor manager down the street at some bar!  Infuriating to say the least.  Then, an incident occurred where I was the fall guy and never given a chance to explain myself.  An employee was coming in on their days off with their friends and comping it when they weren’t supposed to. They were using the floor manager’s POS number.  I was the one accused of this even though I wasn’t there that day, they can check my schedule over the past week.  Plus, even if I knew the manager’s POS number, I wouldn’t know how to do half of the functions because those required additional codes I did not know how to use.  Obviously, she was the one doing it.

I ran into a former employee of hers who said as soon as the floor manager was hired, she went and fired staff that had been there for over ten years.  Whomever she didn’t like, particularly female, she got rid of them in spite of their hard work and loyalty to this place.  I hope she has received her just goods in the meantime.
