let me tell you a little about the owner of this place
Establishment: Saddle Peak Lodge
Location: Saddle Peak
Ann Graham Ehringer is the owner of this restaurant. She is hands-off and while that could be a great thing, she otherwise makes this pretense with veiled hints of authority that everything about the restaurant is very important to her and we (the staff) need to be top notch. She uses the restaurant as her personal showcase to inflate her sense of importance amongst the many people she brings in to impress with "her restaurant". She has NO idea what the hell is going on at ‘her restaurant’. She doesn’t know about or is kept in the dark regarding the guests miserable experiences, lacks service, filthy uniforms, managerial ineptness and larceny, guest and employee attitudes and behavior. When she comes in for dinner she is given service above and before all other guests so as to continue this illusion to her that all is well at the Saddle Peak Lodge. To her discredit, she never has shown signs that she knows whats going on in this regard. She is sat immediately, gets the best service and her food is always prompt and perfect and hot. (one time I gave her a filthy, ripped menu and she was aghast. She called the manager over and made issue with this situation. When he asked me about this I told him I had no choice, that that was the best of the menus we had, which was the truth)
I have seen her drunk at her table and after her visit as she weaves through the bar area. I have seen her openly crying at her table after her abusive, alcoholic (ex?) husband Al has berated her and been nasty. Crying away in a nasty little scene, all for her staff to witness.
Her employees do not receive any sort of health insurance, at all, no matter how many years you work for her. An employee recently had some kidney issues or something and I was told (I am a former server, ‘97-03) that because he couldn’t afford to miss work that he continued to work and that there had been blood on his shirt. Anyway, while her employees pray that no major health issue arise for them, she is currently building herself a home on Molokai (Hawaiian island, spelling?)
A few years ago the management sort of strong armed the waitstaff into providing money ($2 per server, per shift) for the kitchen. We resented being asked to pony up more of our money to pay the kitchen which Ann Graham Ehringer didn’t want to provide for with a proper wage. There was intimation from the manager at the time that this IS what will happen (if we wanted to continue with our jobs) A couple years later, the dining room manager, Mariah Shaw, was found to have been skimming the kitchen funds. Her reasoning was that she was going to return it. No charges were probably filed because she and the ‘managing partner’ Gerhard Tratter were carrying on a physical affair, unbeknownst of course, to Ann Graham Ehringer. A carnival of a restaurant, all operated and presented to the public under the guise of being a really beautiful, professional restaurant. (Beautiful it is, professional it is not.) Oh…the stories I could tell. Perhaps another time kids.
