This restaurant is responsible for some of the worst treatment of employees I have ever witnessed (and I have worked at some terrible places). The owner is a joke of a man, who routinely harasses the waitstaff, forcing them to stay til 5 am while he drinks with his friends and women he cheats on his wife with and not tipping us, making us buy him cigarettes around the block while we have a full section, and giving us old fish for family meal once a day (all the shifts are 10+ hours, the 10 hour one with no break). Also routine: tipping the manager out 20 percent, as well as having to pay for walk outs and mistakes. This place is evil…stay away.
ok for starters without even telling anybody else at work take an afternoon out and go down to the dept of labor in tribeca, explain your situation to an agent there and fill out the proper forms. it will take you maybe an hour to get the ball rolling.
do not tell anyone you work with about this. not so much for the safety of your job (see below) but because you won’t be giving these assholes the heads up so when an agent finally shows up they can be caught off guard.
as for the job itself…well it sounds like you don’t work there anymore…if you do begin job hunting immediately and as soon as you find something walk out.
preferably with all your cash.
