FOH Positions

Establishment: Russian Tea Room

Location: Midtown

Any experiences with this place.  I’ve been called in to interview for a foh manager position.  I interviewed there about six months ago and never heard from them again.  I don’t know if they’ve gone through old resumes or if one of the many anonymous postings on CL’s to which I’ve responded is there’s.  When I called the number they left me, the lady answered, "Real Estate office," until I asked for Ken and then it became "Tea Room"  Does anyone know anything about working at this place? Thanks

Dont waste your time…They already have 700 managers….NY Times gave it one star..I worked as bartender,,,the Place is retarded

i went for an interview once. that upstairs room looks like somebody threw up confetti everywhere and it smelled terribly, terribly musty.

i filled out an application, waited like fifteen or so minutes for a three minute “verbal interview” with some really old french guy who asked me some silly wine question and then dismissed me.

on exiting through the downstairs dining area which was much more brightly lit the musty odor trailed and the service staff that i could see was mainly made up of people who looked like “lurch” from the addams family and oompah loompahs.

and no i was not high.

I went to one of the many cattle calls that the RTR does on a monthly basis about a year ago. I am a seasoned GM and thought moving to a landmark like the RTR could be perfect for me and my career. I met a really nice woman during the interview process and she thought I would be perfect for the position. She arranged a meeting with the owner of the place and I was excited to go thru this process. That was until I met the lunatic owner (real estate guy). The first thing he asked me when we met was (and I quote) “What the F**K are you going to do as the GM of my restaurant?” I was astonished that the owner was cursing at me in his first question of our interview. I apologized and tapped his hand and said, “nothing, I’m not going to work for you”. Anyone who conducts themselves like that at an initial interview is showing his true colors. I wished him good luck and left his office. It should be noted that his office was one of the most disgusting offices I’ve ever been in. It was in complete chaos. Papers and magazines all over the place. A dirty ashtray in his desk. I was appalled.

Thanks everyone for the info. I blew off the interview and I’m glad I did. I went to a last minute posting on CL instead and begin working Wednesday.Yea!!!

Hassan Biberaj (the owner) is a doucheclown. This is what you get when you go to work for people who aren’t restaurant pros. Beppe, his other restaurant, has been on life support for years. He needs to stick to real estate, which, in all respect, he’s very good at. Any man who promotes an idiot like Tom Piscitello to GM just doesn’t get it. At least he had enough sense to fire his condescending ass. Brianne, you rock!

Just an update. I’m the one who posted this ad. I blew off the interview. The idiot called me again today to set up an interview for Monday. That’s how on top of things the RTR group is…NOT!

thats pretty funny.

i understand the appeal of wanting to have a very recognizable establishment on your resume. one of the things i’ve discovered over the years is all those big famous restaurants with the famous chefs tend to be the worst paying and most difficult of jobs.

the good jobs are those places that exist just under that radar.

be thankful you know better and that you found something.
