McMenamins, Yay or Nay??
Establishment: McMenamins
Location: Portland OR
I was looking for some feedback on working for Mcmenamins. Does anyone know what kind of salaries there Management makes? Any positives or negatives about working for this company? I know there food isn’t great, and I have heard a little bit about the group tip pools, presumably this can’t be all bad as I rarely see them hiring, so there staff must be pretty happy. Any inside insight would be appreciated.

As a manager you have to maintain a 17% labor cost at some establishments! I am not even going to go there with food cost.
This alone SHOULD tell you what kind of racket they are running.
P.S. I do not work there
Don’t work there. I have and it was my worst job ever. Management is on some sort of weird power trip. You are constantly being watched and they are on your ass for everything. You pay out huge tips to the manager, and kitchen staff. Expect to be cut on 75% of your shifts.
Management at the SandTrap on the coast is a joke. Dave hires his 2 golfing buddies on as summer help, then promotes them both to management within a week. One of them, Anthony, has never worked in a restaurant in his life. It’s obvious. If you golf and enjoy kissing ass I reccomend working here. Dave yells at servers from the expo line while reeking of alcohol and B.O. Whitest trash management. Servers and trainers have been walking out and quitting on droves lately. Wonder why?? McDouchebag Dave!
My wife worked for them for 2 years, and it was pretty rough. They act as if you should be humbled and awed to work at such a hip place. Expect ridiculous cross-training (you have to cross train for everything, (whether it is relevant to your position and skills you were hired for or not- if you are hired as a server and you don’t immediately learn how to be a grill cook too, WATCH OUT - it will be held against you as incompetence before you ever hit the floor). Butterballs comments really hit the nail on the head, there is a very creepy vibe about these people, they don’t seem to recognize boundaries of any kind or that employees have lives outside of their little fiefdom.

They have a consistent turnover rate. All their properties. Should tell you something…..
