What are they hiding?
Establishment: At least half of them
Location: They don’t say!
Could someone tell me why, when an establishment advertises for servers on Craigslist, half the time they don’t give the NAME of the establishment? That’s kind of important to know. Yes, an address is given, but it’s much easier finding the ABC Cafe then finding 45612 NE Stark #20B. If they don’t want calls all they have to do is post "No Calls." If a name is given, you can decide right then and there if it’s a place you want to apply to or avoid. Yes I know you can Google it, Mapquest, yadda yadda…but why don’t they just say the name in the first place? What is the reasoning behind this?

One pet peeve of mine regarding said advertisements, is that they don’t suggest a spective timeframe in which to apply.
There is a HORRIBLE temp agency called Food Team which runs blind ads for servers, bartenders, etc all the time. You will mainly end up working banquets, if you are lucky. You may luck out with a decent shift here or there but mostly you will be working hell shifts at places which are so bad they can’t even hang on to employees in a recession. The ads always sound like you will be working for a regular company or restaurant, but it’s misleading. From time to time they run an ad for “Private Party Servers” which never materialize. Some of Food Teams clients confiscate tips temps make and give them to thier employees, even though Shawn the Food Team manager promised it would be a tipping gig. It’s irritating when they get my resume and call me, I don’t want to work for them. After I worked a Golf Tournament for them in 2008 (a nightmare) and like many others had trouble getting paid, I quit using them altogether. It took nearly 3 months to get paid. Recently , I have been getting calls from someone I don’t even know from that office asking if I am available. So I guess they can’t hang on to people in a recession either. Anyway, my point is that over the last 18 months, I have had a surprising number of blind ads turn out to be Food Team. It’s always a different person calling, they don’t even know who I am, or that I am already in their database. Shawn , the manager really didn’t seem to care about the missing paychecks, and I discovered from longer term employees that that messed up paychecks were a regular occurance at Food Team and had been for years. I stopped using them, I would make sure those blind ads you respond to are really for what they say they are for, and not a sleazy temp agency

I think it is because they don’yt want calls. Even when they say no calls, people call. I know the answer is then don’t hire them…true, but they still call & bug.
