Poster's Story Title:   NOT ORGANIC Name Of Establishment:   Brown Cafe, Green Catering Location:   61 Hester Street Story:   BROWN CAFE, GREEN CATERING are known as 'locally supporting', 'organic' & 'biodynamic'. None of this is true. The coffee at Brown is not organic OR fair trade, all of the produce, meat, seafood and eggs for Green Catering and Brown Cafe is purchased around the corner in China Town. There is no such thing as a 'free range' chicken, or 'grass fed' meat there....it is all purchased from a Chinese vendor around in the neighborhood. The owner has been lying through his teeth for years about supporting the 'slow food movement'. This is a disgrace, and someone needs to let the public know that they are NOT consuming organic products, and they have been duped for many years. Response Story:   I believe this is could be a punishable offense. I know there have been farmer's fined for saying they were selling organic produce when they have not. NY is covered by NOFA-NY as far as organic certification for farms but I'm not sure about the restaurant business. The feds? Or at least in court for false advertising.
