Poster's Story Title:   Yes DO NOT WORK THERE Name Of Establishment:   Niko's Location:   UWS Story:   There is a reason there is always a permanent ad in the Village Voice week in and week out and now on Craigslist since the owner's witch wife discovered it- half of their servers quit continuously while the lunatics that stay run the assylum. It is a crazy pooling system -people who work only 2 hours more than you on a shift receive twice as much as you do.. then the owner claims everyons is making $300 a day. NOT even remotely close. There is no management, just crazy snitchy long time servers with no life who are given supervisory ie super-duper-snitch- positions. You are not allowed to speak to your coworkers at all unless it is about a table and you can prove it. It can be totally dead and empty and yet if the owner sees you so much as move your mouth, you are shouted at and a diatribe is written in the daily logbook the owner is obssessed with. Every shift you must write in and read this silly, nonsensical slambook. Every little thing is blown out of proportion and written in the book. If you make any mistake in ordering - even when the foreigners who speak no English make the mistake or people lie or do not remember what they meant to order - you have to pay for the whole full retail price meal (yes, ILLEGAL). It is the most negative, depressing, soul sucking atmosphere anywhere and for very very mediocre money ($51 on a weekend all day brunch serving spoiled, obnoxious new money on the UWS a 4 course meal for $13.95). They do provide AWFUL service in a dump in which the mediocre food is wayyyyyy overpriced. $25.95 for a fish that cost Nick $5. The "Indian fat girl" who is really Pakistani (if I recall correctly) once literally threw a check down on the table of mine on a busy Saturday night because she wanted the table without so much as 1. clearing a single dish off the table and 2. even remotely asking politely if they wanted dessert or anything else.. they did in fact want dessert and I was mortified and so was the table. Just "Here's your check." as she threw the check at the people and ran off. Not even diners serve in such a rude, half-hazzard manner. And , s that freaking annoying Greek muzak over and over and over... worse torture than waterboarding. You will quit within a month anyway.. save yourself the misery and aggravation and a piece of your soul and sanity and stay away!! You've been warned :) Response Story:   I would take this post seriously, and the post that it answers, if you all did not also complain about the customers. Reading all you have to say makes me understand that you do not like working with people, either customers or fellow workers. Get another life outside of the hospitality industry, because the public and the business ain't gonna change. There will always be at least one person, probably more, who will be a pain in the ass. Ethical behavior is a two-way street. Complaining about snitches means you are doing something wrong that gives snitches something to say.
