I was just recently fired from my position in the kitchen after being with the company for 1 year weekends and holidays. I was told that it was poor performance from the new executive chef who was just hired a month before to crunch numbers and increase profit for the upcoming year. Funny to hear this when my other coworkers praised me for picking up the pace and being able to be such a dependable worker. Really funny is how the cheap labor that was hired in my place is either not able to communicate in English let alone read the kitchen recipes written in English, or they are not able to communicate with the heavily saturated hispanic group of workers…. The new exectutive chef of this restaurant was heard saying in his first week that he could get one mexican to do what three of us do all day! LOVELY, now I am being criticized for being who I am in my own country. The grounds for termination were completely undeserved, and after going to HR I was urged to go straight to the owner with my complaints where I was told that things are changing and unless there was actual proof of discrimination occuring in the workplace then he was just to allow myself and three others to get fired this week. Now I understand that all areas of business are hurting this year BUT who is to say that us hardworking employees who busted our ass all summer long and worked right through the holidays are suddenly incompetent to do our job and somebody who hasn’t dedicated a year or more of thier time and energy to the company is any more qualified?…. The Brewery is awesome and I could actually say a good place to work but this sinking ship of a resaurant is nowhere you want to go, so don’t let looks decieve you and WALK/RUN AWAY!
