Ama Ama Oyster Bar and Grill

Establishment: Ama Ama

Location: west seattle

I have worked at Ama Ama for just about a year and walked in today to be fired by a new manger whom I have never worked a shift with. The owner had the manager fire me and when I asked for a specific reason they were unable to give me one. The money is terrible as of latley the place seems to be doing pretty bad. The owner is a very difficult woman to get along with and I have been told by more than one co-worker that she is jealous of me which I think is the reason I was fired I have never been repremanded or written-up in the 11.5 months I have picked up any shift she asked of me without complaint, but all of a sudden My boyfriend and I get pregnant whom she flirts with all the time and I am fired without being told any reasons!!!! by the new managerv I have never worked a shift with. I actually have glowing reviews from customers on the west seattle blog where I am named by name(more than one review) So to all beware…there is a reason evryone else has quit including the entire kitchen staff, head chef and all since the doors opened. LOOK OUT FOR THIS PLACE!!!!!!!

me too, fired and denied unemployment…. they seemed so nice.. such a shame.

New Chef just laid me off, am I really going to be denied unemployment? I need to get a lawyer.

If you have worked at least 680 hrs from the month of October 2007 to November 2008. You did not get fired for plausible causes such as. 1 theft, tardiness, unable to perform job descriptions, and so on. Then more than likely you are illegible for it. But call to get details.

Best of luck

Krishna..

The restaurant cannot deny a worker unemployment, that has to be done by the employment security department. Did you even file with UI to claim benefits? If you did, and if you were denied, then you ought to know the reason why. I would not justify the UI’s denial of your claim without any facts, but unemployment insurance is pretty generous these days in compensating people who have been fired, laid off, etc. It is not as if they WANT to deny your claim, or are looking for a reason to keep from paying you benefits.

Ama Ama is, however, able to dispute the validity of your claim, but the final decision is not theirs to make. A jaded employer can make receiving benefits more difficult, but they cannot deny you them. It seems as though if you took the time to fil for unemployment you would have known this. Sounds like you are just pissed off, and perhaps not thinking clearly…

If you are angry at your former employer, you ought to validate that by exposing the facts, not fabricating them.

Furthermore, it is unethical of you to suggest to others who are fired or laid off, and perhaps scared of what to do in the near future, that they may not qualify for emergency benefits… What if somebody in need doesn’t even file because you suggest that their employer may be so treacherous and petty as to keep them from receiving benefits? This is just not the case! Did you stop to consider that you might be causing collateral damage and hurting real people in your efforts to give Ama Ama the what for?
