Shameless Customers
Establishment: All over

I think we should start a forum to discuss "shameless customers". All FOH and BOH employees have stories about customers from hell. It bothers me that our every step is critiqued on websites like chowhound by diners who think they are food critics. Most of them THINK they know alot more about food & wine than they actually do. And those that post on message boards about every move we make are often those who arrive 30 minutes late for their reservations, order 1 course, bring in many bottles of their own wine & balk at corkage, run their server ragged with special requests & then don’t make up for it in their tip, etc.

heres one:in reverse
I went to a french joint at 6:30 on a saturday was there for 3 hours, spent 600 bucks on dinner, wine, whatnot (duaghters graduation dinner) our waiter was so rude, and so pretentious.
He literally would roll his eyes with every request we had.
We ordered a bottle of Opus one…the waiter brought us white wine glasses..
we asked him for proper stemware (rolls eyes) brings it it’s dirty….waiter attempts to pour anyway….we point out lipstick on 3 oiut of 4 glasses, rolls eyes…clean glasses
he returns and begins pouring wine without allowing the host to taste…serving the men first, the ladies last.
did not make proper maintenence of the table made it a mess.
When we ordered our food, my daughter having never ate french food asked what seafood blanquette was…again with the rolling eyes (mayby a twitch? I dunno, I just wanted to have a good time) anyhoo this prick, continues to roll hius eyes, ignore us and give really poor service.
midway through our appetizer.. the waiter tells us to rush it along….finally I’ve had enough… I find the manager, and start telling him what happend, mind you we were polite, and friendly, and just wanting to celebrate my daughter’s graduation from medical school.
The manager says it’s a busy night, they need the table!!!!!!!!!! I was shocked we spent a ton of money for four people, and this jackass actually said that??????
Whoa. Now I am pissed…… but for my daughter, I chill….our cake that we had specially made is brought out by our waiter, he drops it to the floor, picks up the mess and throws it out…..yet charges us for it!!!!
I demand to see the manager again, and he says, well we prepaared this cake for you….”yeah but the waiter dropped, it.” Yes but we did not charge you a fee to cut it?”
By this time, my wife is on the phone with our lawyer, this is flat out fraud.
we refuse to settle on the bill, the service was terrible, the manager incompetent…the food….7 out of 10…..
mostly we don’t understand….we love eating out, we love good waiter, and are friendly tip 20-25%…yet got treated like a homeless with no shoes.
I simple celebration was ruined, and we had to sue these people because of their callous rude, pretentious attitudes.
Man some people just need lessons on respect…..customers as well as servers.
Our waiter was quick to give us his two cents about how annoying we were, and since he got stiffed, ran out after us and called us a bunch of f#&*ing as#%*es, as he put hi hand on my daughter…. we had him arrested for this, and he got 6 months in prison for that plus a parole violation for using cocaine.
maybe it was the coke that was the problem, I do not know, but I eat out less now, and support very few restaurants, due to one really really really bad place.
I had regulars who came in once a week. A lady and her 3 children her friend and her 2 children ages 4-12. The mothers would leave the kids at my counter and get a separate table on the other side of the restaurant. The kids would send the food back 3 or 4 times, throw the food, spit the food out on each other and me, SCREAM at the top of their lungs, drop their plates, drinks, utensils…..ON PURPOSE. The managers did nothing and no matter what the bill was they always tip $3 dollars. Best birth control on the planet
What an extremely lame read. Thank you all for boring the f#*k out of me.
In all honesty, It’s rather difficult to take any of you seriously when you cannot even spell or form proper sentences correctly.
You’re making food servers look bad.
That being said, I will throw my ‘2 cents’ in and try and steer this tripe thread back on topic:
People suck.
Period.
I am damn good at what I do (having done it for far too long) and I am currently caught up in the corporate shit-cog at a new restaurant that has been opened in Bellevue…
Jesus christ, what a complete Cluster-f#*k. Oh well, I’ll try to make the most of the shit-heel managers and general managers and regional managers and….ugh….you get my point.
I have a love/hate relationship with the industry:
I love to hate it.
For the man who went to the French restaurant and received such horrible service…are you f#&*ing kidding me?! I wouldn’t have put up with that and I CERTAINLY would have refused to pay that tab….but please do not come to a website that is devoted to the service industry and it’s workers and try and be clever about “turning the tables” (no pun intended, just a convenient phrase) –you’re better suited to bitch to the actual company or the server himself or really, start your own thread; my only hope is that you’d please use spell check: ‘meet’ and ‘meat’ doesn’t do a lot for your cred. Twisted Evil
Speaking of boring….I do believe I just yawned at my own writing.
restaurant work sucks in general. what dd u do to put urself in the postion of working in one for years if u hate it so bad?
Oh, dear! I’ve worked in all sorts of restaurant industries. I worked at a nice pizza place. Some days, I’d have to unlock the front door for certain orders to come in. Keep in mind, the front lights are out, the open sign is off, the plaquard-style sign says ‘closed’, the chairs are up on the tables. Inevitably, someone would come in, find me in the back, and ask, “Are you open?” Some days, when freight wasn’t coming in, they’d stand there and POUND on the door to ask if we were open.
The menus said ‘delivery not available until after 5 p/m’. In a small town, it’s well known they don’t deliver until evening. Yet people would call at 8 a/m (we didn’t open until 11 a/m) and demand I deliver them a pizza. Yeah, I’m the only one there, I’m setting everyone up for the day, doing prep, making soup, the oven isn’t even hot yet (or not even ON yet)…let me drop everything and cater to YOUR demand.
Another place this vile family waited until 5 minutes to closing to bring their nasty children in, order full dinners, and the kids would run around throwing food, etc. Took an extra hour of cleanup after they left, and they tipped for shit.
I know we’ve ALL got a million stories…

I love it. Agreed, you did hit the nail on the head!
The worse guests are the fu*king *higher management* in hotels. FOH and BOH are expected to give them super PERFECT service… Please, they work for the same company that you do…in fact in most cases, you the waitperson makes them all of their damn money. shit they should be kissing your ass. HAHA then they’ll write the meal off to the company expense account and tip you 15% on the damn pre-taxed total. WTF is that about?! Furthermore, the kitchen LOVES to woo them with extra little courses as gifts…extra marking, extra attention, extra wine, etc… They’re bastards!
